As we age our natural testosterone levels decline, Androgel can help; this is an unfortunate fact of life. As this naturally occurring effect can produce a host of problems in your physical well-being, remedies and solutions have ever increasingly become of the utmost importance in medical practice, ie. More than likely youve seen the commercials for Low-T these advertisements refer to nothing more than the treatment of low-testosterone and the remedy, you guessed it, anabolic steroids; most commonly what you know as Androgel. In most cases Androgel is strictly used for the purpose of testosterone replacement therapy; it can be used for performance enhancing purposes, although not nearly as effectively as many other options. Although injectable testosterone is in many ways superior to Androgel this topical transdermal solution has a welcomed function and meets the needs of many men.

Understanding Androgel:

Androgel is a topical testosterone cream or more aptly a Transdermal Testosterone. One of the primary forms of treatment of low-testosterone Androgel unlike many testosterone medications does not need to be injected but as a transdermal cream is applied directly to the skin. Beyond the form in-which it comes there are not too many differences between Androgel and typical injectable testosterone but differences do exist. In the end, by topical application or injection, either way you are receiving the same testosterone hormone but the most notable difference is in the efficiency rating.

When we use injectable testosterone much more of the hormone is made available to the body; while no injectable testosterone provides a 100% absorption rating many are close; Androgel however can only report a 10% usable amount from each dosing therapy provided. To give understanding; one of the most common forms of testosterone used in hormone replacement therapy is that of Testosterone-Propionate and injections of 100mg are fairly common place. For the Androgel users to receive the same amount of usable testosterone by application of this transdermal cream one would need to apply approximately 5g of the solution in-order to reach the same end.

Benefits of Androgel:

Androgel can provide a host of beneficial properties; to put it mildly many use this product in an effort to bring forth a feeling long ago held in their youth and if this sounds too good to be true we understand but this doesnt change the truth; the use of Androgel can bring back that long-lost pep in your step. The reason is simple; we age, our testosterone levels decline, with this decline our metabolism slows down, we lose muscle tissue, we lose strength, our energy levels fall, as does our libido. These are the most common possible negative side-effects but understand, if you are relatively in good health the odds of receiving any of these effects are slim but they are possible. Interestingly enough Androgel does possess one possible side-effect its injectable cousins do not. As a topical cream applied directly to the skin there is present the possibility of skin irritation or rash at the applied area. There is no way to predict if you will fall prey to this problem but if you do Androgel may not be right for you and to improve your low-testosterone you will need to stick with injectable remedies.

Deciding if Androgel is right for You:

If youve noticed a decrease in libido, loss of strength, low energy levels and a difficulty in maintaining a healthy body weight you may indeed suffer from low-testosterone. Only your doctor can determine if your levels are truly low but if they are there is a good chance Androgel is right for you. If you qualify youll find the medication to be a little on the costly side but more and more many have found their own personal insurance plans cover low-testosterone and if they do you should be in good shape.

Androgel & the Athlete:

As Androgel is a member of the anabolic steroid family in most cases it is not what we would call a superb performance enhancer. Granted, if an athlete suffers from low-testosterone and uses Androgel in an effort to remedy, in essence they have enhanced their performance. However, what we commonly think of as performance enhancement, high levels of enhancement, Androgel cannot provide this; one would literally need to apply the medication around the clock to receive such a boost.
Make no mistake, were not saying it cant give a boost; were simply saying not in the manner of extreme, say as a bodybuilder or power lifter would use or even many football players. Even so, recall the BALCO scandal and the transdermal drug simply known as The Clear. For the most part this drug was nothing more than a non-detectible Androgel. It provided a slight boost to the athlete but not massive piles of muscle and strength.

Androgel Application:

Androgel will almost always come in one of two forms; a multi-dose pump or a single dose packet. In either case application is the same; simply rub the desired amount onto the skin and from there it will naturally soak into your body. Generally there are three common areas of application for Androgel; the shoulders, abdomen or the upper-arm(s) area. All three areas will work equally as well but your doctor will normally advise a specific preferred area of application for this clear odorless drug.

The Bottom Line:

If you suffer from low-testosterone Androgel can greatly improve your quality of life. If you are an individual who suspects your testosterone levels may indeed be low you are highly recommended to seek the advice of your doctor in this regard. Conversely, if you are an athlete of any type or simply a gym rat looking for a high performance edge Androgel will in most cases be a poor choice. There are proven methods of performance enhancement that are far more efficient and effective than Androgel for athletes and gym rats. Even so, Androgel has a more than welcomed home in the anabolic steroid family and it serves its purpose well.
