The steroid ring arrested in Louisiana were distributors of anabolic steroids produced by the underground lab called Generic Labs Pharmaceuticals (GLP) and Mexican veterinarian steroids from Tornel.

This UGL is different from the similarly-named UK-based underground lab (Generic Labs [GL]) that was popular a couple years ago. See photograph of Generic Labs UK below.

The steroid bust was the largest in the history of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department. While it is relatively small-scale compared to various internet sources that were busted as part of Operation Raw Deal, it represents a significant crackdown on the local underground steroid trade occurring at bodybuilding gyms in the region.

Interestingly, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz could not hide his astonishment at the high number of gainfully employed professionals who were steroid users on the customer list. Guidroz has obviously not read “A league of their own: demographics, motivations and patterns of use of 1,955 male adult non-medical anabolic steroid users in the United States” by Cohen, Collins, Darkes & Gwartney.

Guidroz made headlines this week by revealing that a few high school football players were customers of the steroid distribution ring. He was probably heard telling deputies that HIS steroid investigation caught more high school steroid users than the fancy $6 million dollar steroid testing program in Texas - and at a much lower cost!
