Bernhard Kohl Victim of Tour de France Doping Test for CERA
[October 15th, 2008] by Millard BakerAustrian cyclist Bernhard Kohl became the fourth victim of a secret, new doping test for CERA (trade name Mircera) that was introduced at the 2008 Tour de France.
An AFLD statement said: “The AFLD confirms that its laboratory at Chatenay-Malabry has found two abnormal samples showing the presence of EPO Cera in blood tests done on 3 and 15 July, before and during the Tour de France, on Austrian cyclist Bernard Kohl.”
Mircera is a third generation version of erythropoietin manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Hoffman-LaRoche. The performance enhancing drug that was widely considered “undetectable” by riders competing in the 2008 Tour de France.
Bernhard Kohl joins cyclists Stefan Schumacher, Leonardo Piepoli and Riccardo Ricco who previously failed the CERA tests.
