ABC Affiliate Tracks Down Firefighters Using Steroids in Phoenix
[October 31st, 2008] by Millard BakerInvestigative reporter Josh Bernstein, with ABC 15 in Phoenix, tracked down firefighters in Phoenix trying to bust them in the act of buying anabolic steroids. The ABC15 investigative team staked out the Revolution Medical Center and filmed video of numerous firefighters leaving the clinic with bags suspected of containing steroids and human growth hormone. Bernstein showed the video to Phoenix Fire Assistant Chief Mark Angle (”Valley firefighters and police tied to federal steroid probe,” October ).
Back in August, we watched as several uniformed firefighters walked in and out of
Revolution Medical Centers with little black bags in hand.On more than one occasion, the firefighters arrived at the clinic in a fire truck.
After reviewing ABC15’s video that shows a uniformed firefighter walking out of the clinic with three black bags, Angle said, “There will be an investigation.”
Several firefighters with the Phoenix Fire Department are now under investigation. Some are linked to a federal DEA investigation of the Revolution Medical Center.
Josh Bernstein and ABC15 investigators have had an influential role in shutting down the Revolution Medical Center. They have reported that anabolic steroids from the clinic were implicated in the deaths of three patients. Their reports may have increased pressure for the Mariposa County Medical Examiner to amend the autopsy to include anabolic steroids as a contributing cause of death in a drug overdose.
