Owner of Hardcore Canadian Gym Sentenced for Steroid Trafficking
[January 15th, 2009] by Millard BakerCanada Provincial court Judge Paul Sully gave the owner of Bull Pen Gym in Edmonton a 15-month conditional sentence. Roger Tomasi pleaded guilty to two counts of steroid trafficking; The gym owner will be under house arrest for 3-months and subject to a strict curfew for the remainder of his sentence that also includes community service and counseling (”House arrest for steroid-selling gym boss,” January 15).
Prosecutor Greg Rice told court that Tomasi, the owner of the Bull Pen Gym at 10121 159 St., sold 199 pills of Anavar to two undercover officers at the gym on Nov. 10, 2006, and another 100 pills of the same popular oral anabolic steroid to an undercover officer at the gym six days later.
The total amount of all three sales was $510, said Rice, adding the possession of steroids is legal, but trafficking in them is not, and a conviction can carry a maximum penalty of three years in prison.
Roger Tomasi was originally indicted as a co-conspirator along with Brian Wainstein of GenXXL and Glenn England for the more serious crime of “conspiring to commit an indictable offence, relating to an alleged conspiracy to import and sell steroids.” Tomasi’s defense attorney, Jake Chadi, succeeded in having the conspiracy charge thrown out by the Canada federal crown.
Brian Wainstein and Glenn England still face steroid conspiracy charges. England will appear in court tomorrow to set a trial date. Wainstein remains a fugitive with an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Canada. Brian Wainstein pleaded guilty to charges of steroid distribution in Ireland and served four months in prison. Ireland does NOT have an extradition treaty with Canada.
