Ron Hornaday, the defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, admitted to using the anabolic steroid testosterone as part of a therapy attempting to treat an unknown medical condition that caused him to lose considerable bodyweight. He sought testosterone replacement therapy at Palm Beach Rejuvenation Center to restore his compromised health.
“I’d lost 38 pounds [in the 2004 season], and no doctor could tell me what was wrong,” Hornaday said, adding that a friend encouraged him to consult with the Palm Beach Rejuvenation Center. A local nurse came to his house to take his blood, he said, and forwarded the results to the clinic. Hornaday provided records to ESPN showing that the drugs were prescribed by doctors at the clinic within a day of that visit.

Chinese national Lei Jin, PhD and his company Genescience Pharmaceutical Inc., makers of Jintropin brand human growth hormone, have forfeited about $2.7 million dollars to the United States government for illegally marketing and distributing human growth hormone over the internet to bodybuilders, athletes, and pharmacies.
Lei JIn and Genescience Pharmaceutical were indicted last year as part of Operation Raw Deal. Assets from the U.S. branches of their Chinese bank accounts were frozen at the time. Now the feds say the money is theirs.
Genescience Pharmaceutical was well-known among bodybuilders for the high quality and inexpensive human growth hormone that was available on the black market. Singer-songwriter John Mayer has been caught using human growth hormone (or so he would like people to believe he is using HGH). He was photographed by paparazzi exiting a medical building with a white paper bag with “experimental growth hormones 2x daily” handwritten on the outside of it and signed presumably by a physician (”Johnny’s a growing boy,” June 12).
