Reports: Dolphins Suspend RB Morris For Steroid Use

Reports: Dolphins Suspend RB Morris For Steroid Use, By: Matthew Smith

September 1, 2006

Miami, FL (AHN) - The Dolphins have suspended running back Sammy Morris for the first four games of the season after two newspapers reported he violated the league's steroid policy.

In stories posted on the Web sites of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and the Palm Beach Post, Morris reportedly tested positive last season for ephedrine.

Morris was supposed to back up Ronnie Brown, filling the void left by Ricky Williams, who signed on with a CFL team for one year after he tested positive for marijuana three times, leading to his ban from the NFL.

David Cornwell, Morris' lawyer, explained to the Sun-Sentinel that his client was taking the cold remedy, Sudafed, which may have included the steroid. Morris used the medicine in an effort to recover from sinusitis and upper respiratory infections.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban refused to discuss the issue, but commented on the team's immediate needs to fill the depth at running back.

Saban said, It's an area we've always had some interest in trying to improve, even in the offseason. We'll continue to do that in the next 48 hours to see if someone can add some experience for us."
