A Loudoun County man has been charged with steroid possession after U.S. Customs recovered a shipment from China, authorities said.

Authorities said U.S. Customs intercepted 22,000 units of anabolic steroids en route from China at JFK International Airport in New York in August. The steroids were to be delivered to a postal service company in Leesburg.

The drugs were given to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, and an investigation determined that they were intended for 30-year-old Jeremy S. Helbing, of Leesburg. According to the sheriff's office, a search of Helbing's home uncovered 250 doses of steroids, 1,000 doses of human growth hormone, 150 assorted pills, 320 syringes, 13.9 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $1,950 cash.

Helbing was arrested Friday. He was charged with possession of a schedule III narcotic, possession of a schedule IV narcotic, possession of a schedule VI narcotic, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
