Steroid Facts

Steroid facts, you bet, there are many and for every fact regarding anabolic steroids there are more lies, half-truths and misunderstandings. In the end most of it boils down to pure ignorance and regardless of your opinion of anabolic steroids that’s no way to be. If you visit any message board that discusses the topic, if you type a few key words into a search engine you’ll find a host of response and replies, article after article, many sharing the same lies, many saying very different things; the question is then simple, wherein lies the truth? There’s good news, what we’ve done is listed some of the most common lies or misconceptions about anabolic steroids and provided the truth to each as well; hopefully this will provide you with some ammunition of your own the next time you find yourself in a discussion.

Steroid Myths, Lies and Legends:

Myth: Steroids will kill you

Steroid Facts: Anabolic steroids are not a direct cause of death. More people die every year from simple over the counter medications; in-fact, we can safely say there has yet to be one recorded death attributed directly to anabolic steroid use.

Myth: Anabolic steroids cause “Roid Rage”

Steroid Facts: Although anabolic steroid use may increase aggression in some individuals a study performed by the New England Journal of Medicine showed subjects were found to show no signs of increased hostility or violence even when supraphysiological doses were used. Anabolic steroids do not chemically alter the brain, they do not change ones personality nor do they effect emotions.

Myth: Anabolic steroids will shrink your penis

Steroid Facts: Anabolic steroids have no effect on the penis; they will however cause temporary testicular atrophy (your testicles will shrink.) When we use anabolic steroids our natural testosterone production is diminished while we use the steroids; testosterone is produced in the testicles of males, without production of the hormone our testicles shrink. Once use is discontinued the testicles will return to their normal size.

Myth: Anabolic steroids always cause high blood pressure and improper cholesterol levels

Steroid Facts: High blood pressure and improper cholesterol levels are possible side-effects caused by anabolic steroid use, however, in many cases both are largely avoidable. If you suffer from either condition anabolic steroids should not be used until the condition is improved. However, with a proper diet both conditions can easily be avoided by a healthy individual. For example, many individuals will find their HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) to be lowered with anabolic steroid use, the same individual will notice if they supplement with healthy omega fatty acids the problem will be non-existent or remedied.

Myth: The use of Nandrolone Decanoate (Deca-Durabolin) will cause “Deca-Dick”

Steroid Facts: As with all anabolic steroids Nandrolone Decanoate will shut down your natural testosterone production; without testosterone, maintaining or even producing an erection can be very difficult, this is why exogenous use of testosterone is very important. If one uses testosterone in conjunction with Nandrolone Decanoate the side-effect of “Deca Dick” will be avoided. Many individuals will need to maintain a ratio of 2:1 test:deca in order to achieve this end, some slightly higher.

Myth: If you use steroids you will grow massively

Steroid Facts: Taking anabolic steroids by no means guarantees your muscles will grow massively. Anabolic steroids are largely food dependent, they must be fed. If you desire a very large physique you must eat in a manner to achieve this end, anabolic steroids will only aid in the process.

Myth: All performance enhancing drugs are anabolic

Steroids Steroid Facts: There are many performance enhancing drugs and just as many do not belong to the anabolic steroid category. A prime example being that of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) which is not an anabolic steroid but a peptide hormone; these are two very different things.

Myth: The use of anabolic steroids will prevent pregnancy

Steroid Facts: Although anabolic steroid use can diminish the chances of pregnancy during use they are by no means a fail proof method, in-fact they’re not even a good one. Anabolic steroid use will absolutely not prevent pregnancy.

Myth: Anabolic steroids will cause irreversible liver damage

Steroid Facts: Some anabolic steroids can cause stress to the liver, particularly oral steroids. However, once use is discontinued the toxic effect is no more; further, many over the counter medications cause far more stress to the liver than any anabolic steroid as can simple alcohol consumption. More importantly, with responsible use of anabolic steroids any minor damage caused to the liver will heal due to the livers remarkable healing capabilities in a very short time after use is halted.
