Chemist for Onyx Pharma UGL Pleads Guilty, Prosecutors Recommend 15 years in Prison

Chemist for Onyx Pharma UGL Pleads Guilty, Prosecutors Recommend 15 years in Prison

Philip Goodwin has admitted to his role as the “chemist” that manufactured anabolic steroid products for the underground laboratory (UGL) known as Onxy Pharmaceuticals. Goodwin entered his guilty plea before United States District Court Judge Nathaniel Gorton on November 29, 2017.

Specifically, Goodwin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances (anabolic steroids), one count of conspiracy to traffic counterfeit drugs, one count of trafficking counterfeit drugs, one count of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and one count of conspiracy to launder money.

Goodwin was notably one of the two co-founders behind the Onxy Pharmaceuticals UGL. Most Onxy Pharma customers were only familiar with the other co-founder Tyler Bauman – or to be more accurate, the customers were familiar with Bauman’s internet persona “Musclehead320” – as the most active promoter of Onyx Pharma counterfeit steroids on social media applications such as Instagram.

Goodwin and Bauman agreed to be partners in the illegal steroid manufacturing enterprise in early 2015. They made the ill-advised decision of naming the UGL after a real pharmaceutical company that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the multi-billion dollar biopharmaceutical company Amgen. Goodwin and Bauman even used the very same logo of the legitimate Onxy Pharmaceuticals to market their underground steroids. However, the legitimate pharmaceutical company never manufactured anabolic steroids.

The two business partners divided their responsibilities such that Goodwin was primarily responsible for manufacturing, labeling and packaging Onxy branded injectable steroids in a clandestine laboratory located in his home while Bauman was in charge of social media, internet marketing, sales and customer service. They delegated other roles such as shipping and money transfer to at least four other co-conspirators.

Goodwin was one of the last of the six co-conspirators to plead guilty in the criminal case against the UGL With Goodwin’s plea, both of the co-founders of Onxy Pharma UGL have admitted guilt. Bauman already entered a guilty plea to five charges for his role in a conspiracy to traffic counterfeit steroids back in August 2017.

Bauman and Goodwin are scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on January 23, 2018 and February 28, 2018, respectively. As part of their respective plea agreements, prosecutors will recommend a prison sentence of 11 years and 3 months for Bauman and a whopping prison sentence of 15 years and 8 months for Goodwin.
