Routine Traffic Stop Involving Long Island Bodybuilder Leads to Arrest of Local Steroid Dealer

A routine traffic stop involving a Long Island bodybuilder somehow resulted in the arrest of a local steroid dealer. The bodybuilder and his steroid dealer were arrested and charged on June 28th and June 29th, respectively.

Joseph Tumbarello, a 22-year old bodybuilder residing in Hicksville, was the passenger in a BMW that was the subject of a routine traffic stop by the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) on June 28, 2018. The driver was issued a citation for a traffic violation. However, Tumbarello caught the attention of NCPD officers when he suspiciously attempted to conceal something in his pants pocket. Tumbarello turned out to have two anabolic steroids in his possession. They included the injectable testosterone and the orally-active oxandrolone (Anavar).

NCPD charged Tumbarello with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance (two anabolic steroids and two unspecified controlled substances). But the NCPD involvement didn’t end with Tumbarello’s arrest. The incident sparked an investigation that led the police to Tumbarello’s steroid dealer within 24 hours.

Christopher Bretton, a 34-year old resident of Bethpage, was taken into custody the following day after NCPD investigators executed a search warrant on his residence and seized a large quantity of various anabolic steroids, human growth hormone (hGH) and other muscle-building drugs. NCPD charged Bretton with 15 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and four counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance.

NCPD investigators did not reveal exactly how the arrest of Tumbarello led to the arrest of his steroid dealer Bretton. Bretton most likely has a good idea of what happened especially since his four counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance correspond with Tumbarello’s four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Sometimes the most obvious explanation is the correct one.
