Lysine

Lysine is an essential amino acid that is found abundantly in brewer’s yeast, wheat germ, dairy products, fish, and other types of meats.

Lysine is taken to help maintain the health of bone, muscle and other body tissue. Lysine helps keep your bones healthy by improving your body’s ability to absorb and use calcium. Another interesting use for Lysine is for its ability to help relieve outbreaks and symptoms of herpes simplex I and II. In athletes, Lysine is used to help grow and maintain lean muscle mass and keep their bones strong.

Lysine is taken before meals and usually in dosages of 500-3000mg a day.

Reason For Use Dosage
Keep Your Heart Healthy 500 – 2,000 mg
Stimulate Growth Hormone Release 500 – 2,000 mg
Relief of Herpes Simplex I 1,000 – 3,000 mg
Relief of Herpes Simplex II 1,000 – 3,000 mg

If Lysine is used at more than 15,000mg daily, abdominal cramping or diarrhea may occur. This is rare, but if these symptoms do occur, it is recommended that you lower the dose to a comfortable range. It is not recommended that Lysine be used in children.
